The Ohio MITS ProjectIn June 2004, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved Ohio’s plan for the new Medicaid Information Technology System (MITS) and selected Ohio as an early adopter state for the new CMS Medicaid Information Technology Architecture. In 2005, ODJFS identified approximately 3,000 business requirements that were needed to support the business needs of Ohio’s ever evolving Medicaid program. In 2007, Hewlett Packard (HP) was selected, via competitive bidding, as the vendor to design MITS, provide project management, systems analysis and design, data conversion, and implementation support to ODJFS. MITS is first and foremost a strategic project to enable Ohio Medicaid to respond to current and emerging business demands in the health care marketplace. MITS has replaced the 20-year-old legacy Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS). The key business driver for MITS is the need for an information technology system capable of rapidly implementing state and federal Medicaid program changes and meeting today’s business needs for Ohio Medicaid. The development and implementation of MITS provides the opportunity to improve operations and to streamline functionality for managed care plans, fee-for-service providers, and Medicaid consumers. MITS provides a secure Web site that will offer more support through an array of automated business solutions. August 2, 2011
